Sheriff Heads to Lynchburg to Retrieve Abductor of Marnie Rudolph

Special to The Star Woodstock May 16 Sheriff Daniel Spiker travels to Lynchburg Va to bring Hiram Hausenfluck 63 years old of Shenandoah county to Woodstock for trial on kidnapping and abducting 19 year old Marnie Rudolph daughter of John W Rudolph Hausenfluck who lived at Rudolphs home for some time and traveled with the girl to Mount Jackson registering at a hotel under assumed names He is the half brother of the girl’s grandfather and was previously pardoned after a seduction conviction in Virginia penitentiary.

Man charged with abduction of 19 year old daughter

Hiram E. Hausenfluck of Shenandoah county was arrested in Lynchburg on a warrant by John W. Rudolph for kidnapping and abducting Mamie Rudolph, 19, for immoral purposes. He claims to aid a friend and that the girl planned to marry in Somerset, with further details disputed.

A quiet tasteful wedding united Miss Susie Blevin Boxwell and Elder Cornwell at 8:30 last evening at the Boxwell home on South Market Street in Winchester. Rev. S. K. Wine officiated. The bride, a Boxwell daughter, wore chiffon over satin and guests shared a wedding supper. The couple will reside near Double Tollgate on the Front Royal road.

Thornton Offutt Dies Near Capon

Relatives in Winchester and Frederick County report the death of Thornton W. Offutt at his daughter Mrs. J. S. Watsons home on Little Capon. He was about 70, long a leading Southern Methodist, once a B&O brakeman. Surviving daughters include Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Evan P. Hiett.

Episcopal Council in Busy Session in Virginia Diocese

The 112th annual meeting of the Council of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the Northern Diocese of Virginia convened at St. Jaimes Church Warrenton. Bishop Gibson chaired as delegates, with 53 clerical and 35 lay representatives. A Charlottesville saloon resolution was approved urging closure at the June 4 election.

Railroad engineman Edward Langley injured at Strasburg Junction

Edward Langley a prominent Shenandoah Valley division engineman of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was struck by a steam valve rod at Strasburg Junction Virginia while repairing a locomotive. He suffered head injuries but is not believed to be in serious condition and will miss days of work. Langley was taken to his Brunswick Maryland home to recover with his wife and several children.

Construction workers at the Winchester exchange of Bell Telephone Company install a new switchboard section. Manager A. H. Newman expects the addition to be in service soon, prompted by a rise in business.

Rev J W H Beale plans adoption of the new church ritual at Market Street Methodist Episcopal Church. The June 2 inauguration will introduce chants anthems creeds responsive psalms and ceremonies akin to the Book of Common Prayer in a more elaborate public worship form.

Barton to address University College of Medicine graduates

Hon Robert T Barton a Winchester lawyer will deliver the address to the graduating class of the University College of Medicine at Richmond Virginia on Tuesday night May 21. Barton is a noted public speaker in the state. The college was founded by Dr Hunter Holmes McGuire and is among the leading medical schools in Virginia. Several local students are enrolled.

Bright Little Child Dies In California

Refuge Virginia mourns Abbie Catherine Hummer the bright young daughter of Mr and Mrs Mark Hummer who died in Los Angeles after moving there in March. Friends recall her sweetness and cheerfulness as extended family and neighbors share condolences and local notices cover illnesses visits and a church fundraiser held at Riding's Chapel to support a new church.

By order of the Navy Department Surgeon John E. Page, formerly stationed on the cruiser Milwaukee, has been detached and sent to the naval hospital at Mare Island near San Francisco California. He is the son of Dr and Mrs Robert P Page of Berryville Virginia and has many friends in Wilkesbarre. His wife is a native of California.

Widow Mary Dailey Dies Suddenly in Winchester Home
