Workmen for Parker Russell Manufacturing of St Louis completed four new retorts at the Winchester Gas and Electric Light Company plant, part of a seven-bench addition since last fall. The clay retorts replace iron, each holding forty pecks of coal, improving gas quality. Upgrades since possession include a 150 horsepower Bashar engine and total improvements estimated at 8 000 to 10 000 dollars, cutting fuel gas cost from 1 75 to 1 25 per thousand feet.

Runaway Freight Cars Go Wild in Baltimore Depot Chaos
A runaway east bound freight on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad damaged Baker & Co.'s wholesale warehouse area. Two coal cars jumped loose at 4:30 pm, reached about 40 mph, struck two loaded coal cars, toppled them into a ditch, and crashed into Baker Street, tearing track and causing extensive damage estimated at $600 plus. Brakemen McDuell and Charles Powers escaped unharmed by leaping off the runaways.

Plastering Contract for Shenandoah Valley Bank Completed
Lushbaugh Hopewell and Marshall of Hagerstown and Carson Haymaker of this city finished a large plastering contract for the Shenandoah Valley National Bank building owned by C. E. Hoover.
