Bold Kidnapper Steals a Boy in Winchester Area
A seven year old son of Isaac B. Cannon, a former Winchester resident and Baltimore & Ohio Railroad lineman now in Brunswick Maryland, was abducted last week. A stranger lured him to a railroad box car promising a better place to coast and locked him inside before the boy slept through the trip away from home. The boy woke, escaped to a station, and identified his abductor’s warning, sparking a town wide search and concern over the kidnapping case.

At the General Turner Ashby Camp meeting, the annual report on the Lee Camp Soldiers' Home in Richmond covered the year ending December 31, 1901. It notes 266 inmates, one from Winchester, with nine favorable and seven on file applications. fourteen years since inception cost about $550,000. seven Winchester veterans have gone there and forty died last year.

Father Reed Dies at Almost Ninety in Champaign
Rev. K Reed known as Father Reed, a Martinsburg native and Winchester resident for years, dies at almost 90 after long illness. Born May 22 1803 he was ordained 1826 and served as circuit rider before ministerial work. He married Mary Grinshaw in 1828 and later Mary Magee in 1849.
