The editorial defends Judge Harrison for fair rulings and instructions to the jury during the Stroth trial. It notes his strong statement against unwritten law and his evident concern for the affected Bywaters family, while disputing claims he encouraged lawlessness.
The firemen's convention committee met in Chambersburg and invited the Cumberland Valley Firemen's Association to hold its annual meet there on May 9. President G. Fred Gibbs is expected to respond, with the executive committee led by W. H. A. Hamilton of Hagerstown to act on initiation. An entertainment committee of five was formed and several committees were appointed.
Mrs. Sarah Fries wife of the late George Fries died of paralysis at eleven oclock Friday night at her daughter s home in Turtle Creek Pennsylvania The remains were brought to Winchester and laid at the home of her sister on Fairmount Avenue She leaves four sisters and three brothers two sons and three daughters The funeral was held this afternoon at Bethel with Fank and Son undertakers in charge
Arthur Clark Carpenter died at his home near Whitacre on Sunday morning after a ten day pneumonia illness. He was born August 24, 1848 and leaves a large family including fourteen children, twelve living, with many grandchildren. His funeral will be held Tuesday at Ebenezer Friends meeting, conducted by Elder Roy Schmucker.
Bliss Virginia March 11 a domestic medical incident left Mrs. Charles M Lupton near death after an overdose of medicine. Dr I M Brumback and neighbors revived her after hours of effort. She is reported much better and recovering. Rev G P Hott of Berkeley Springs is visiting en route to the U B Conference at Edinburgh Virginia. Daughters of the Confederacy Turner Ashby Chapter to meet at Mrs W S Love’s on Tuesday March 12 at four pm.
Philip A. Borden of Toms Brook Virginia wed Pearl May Smoot of Maurertown Virginia on Saturday afternoon at Zion Reformed parsonage in Hagerstown Maryland. Reverend J. S. Kieffer officiated the ceremony.

Jailor Adam Forney reports a colored insane asylum matron from Petersburg visited the Winchester jail for the first time in 15 years. Sallie Dupee arrived to fetch Esther Gaunt, wife of a Brucetown man, who has been confined for mental illness. The woman left peacefully with her escort Saturday afternoon.
Judge T. W. Harrison could not hold the Shenandoah County term because he was designated to preside over the Strother trial in Culpeper Virginia. The regular term was postponed due to the judge's reassignment.
Staunton prepares for a local option election with a temperance campaign led by Edward L. Rinehart and Shenandoah court advocates. Prominent speakers Rev J Gray McAllister H R West and R H Bennett visit as anti saloon group forms locally amid ongoing dry efforts.

Emma Williams died yesterday at her home near Stephenson Station in this county at age 22 after a long illness of consumption. The burial will be Tuesday in the Brucetown colored cemetery following services at Brucetown Church.

Marion Williams daughter of Prof. and Mrs. T. J. Williams married Charles Tevi of Berryville at The Walnuts Mint Springs. The ceremony followed Lohengrin Bridal Chorus with Elizabeth Jefferson Knowles as flower girl. They departed for Washington and Baltimore after a modest breakfast for immediate family guests.
A 1900s report lists trial expenses for the Strother case totaling roughly $1,100. Items include jury transportation, summons, Commonwealth Attorney fees, county clerk costs, deputy guards, witnesses, mileage, per diem, and jury board. Dr. William F. Drewry’s $40 expert witness claim was disallowed.
The body of Edward Lewis of near Capon Bridge was brought to Fairview for burial after dying Saturday morning. He leaves a widow and four children. A large crowd gathered at the graveside to pay last respects. he was 34 years old.
