A lively fist fight on Main Street drew a large crowd after a dispute between John McDonald of the Western Union Telegraph office and a local African American youth named Johnson. A report from the Hagerstown Mail describes Crazy Dan Bowers bound for a brain factory in Chester Pennsylvania. He escaped restraints and caused a scene on a train before security subdued him.
A Marlboro school event on Thursday Feb 27 drew a large audience and strong applause. The program featured recitations and songs performed by students including Susie Kinsley Annie Teyalt Mamie Pangle Nellie Pangle Irene Lineberg Ethel Lineberg Virginia Mitchell Dorothy's Mis Newt Pangle and others with music by A e walt and a pantomime. The turnout and enthusiastic response reflected the community’s support for the school and its teachers.
The Berkeley Springs Post cites Winchester having do in’s and visitors noting pretty girls, while the paper argues Berkeley Springs has real pretty girls without gathering them. It asserts the area has plenty of attractive women and challenges other towns’ claims.
The Evening Star and The Morning News Item receive the first car load of paper for the new Duplex press. Rolls weigh a half ton each and enable rapid printing and folding as the press operates.
The business office and mechanical department move to 335 Mast Water Street adjoining the post office. Bell telephones list business at 3 and editorial rooms. The big duplex press will arrive in Winchester within two weeks for installation and will allow growth of the Star and Morning News Item without crowding news columns.

The Clarke Courier notes the death near Berryville of James A. Forster at Jefferson Fields after a two week illness from pneumonia. Born in 1829, he died at age 77 or 78. Funeral at his house ended at Green Hill Cemetery. He is survived by three daughters, and praised for integrity kindness and community service.
Samuel Boyd son of Jesse Boyd and Miss Lula Dick both of this county near Colinsville were married by Rev. P. J. Lawrence at the minister's home last week. They will reside in West Virginia. Mrs. McPherson of California and Miss Florence Whitacre were guests of Mrs WC Whitacre yesterday. Mr. J. Bageant moved to a newly bought home at Grimes. He sold his farm to Jacob Dick who occupies it now. Arthur C. Carpenter remains ill. M. Pugh is on the grip list.
Attorney General William A. Anderson of Richmond returned from Washington after consulting Major Holmes Conrad about the West Virginia debt question. The case will be heard before the Supreme Court in Washington on Monday. Stop that pain. Use Penn 8. & K. Plasters priced 25c at G. F. Miler's Sens.
Mr and Mrs Egbert Van Alstyne with little Miss May Greenwalt depart for California to perform in vaudeville for three months. The act centers in Los Angeles with a Francia production, highlighting the trio's act and travel.

Special to The Star reports Archie Roosevelt son of President Theodore Roosevelt improving after a serious relapse from diphtheria. The patent treatment has responded and officials believe he is near recovery. In a separate note from Evelyn, New York, defense in the Thaw trial rests, with Nesbit Thaw expected to testify in rebuttal.
Brucetown reports several illnesses with most patients improving, including Mrs. C H Boden able to walk and Miss Pearl Buchanan returning to school. Lizzie Gant remains frail though better. rheumatism remains common in the Valley. Mr W B Bishop mourns his sister Mrs Morgan in Covington, Va. Preaching is slated for Sunday at Crum's Burnt Factory and Brucetown with Rev C H Buchanan delivering sermons in the day.
William M. Holliday, longtime Winchester court stenographer, accepts a responsible role with the Virginia Coal and Iron Company in Wise County Virginia and will depart Sunday to begin his duties. He is noted for ability and exemplary habits and leaves many friends wishing him success.
The Western State Hospital board met on Wednesday night and yesterday morning in Staunton. Mayor W. H. Landes, newly appointed member, and H. Hansbrough of the board, along with J. N. Bauserman, the new state commissioner of hospitals, attended but no general business was transacted.
Brucetown reports Mrs Emma Nail of Philadelphia visiting sister Mrs Charley Boden while Mrs Lydia Timberlake is markedly improved. Little Best Hesseltine remains quite ill with ongoing illness noted in town remarks. continuous small town update from March reports.
Geo E Sipe special master commissioner in the Western District of Virginia filed a report in the Walter Baker Company versus William H Baker case. He finds Baker owes 52499.94 in net profits from 28 months of operating with infringing trade insignia. The master disallowed several expenses and concluded net profits of 52460.94. The report totals 38 pages and goes to court for final determination with Judge George G Grattan and counsel R T Barton listed.
