Chester Funkhouser, 20, was kicked by a stallion near Mount Jackson causing a crushed skull and loss of sight in one eye. Doctors Schmucker and Morse removed the left eye and treated a ghastly wound as the patient remained conscious through surgery. He lies in bed restrained to drain the wound while recovering, with straps supporting him under careful care.

Man Shot in Harrisburg Hotel Foe Faces Penitentiary
Daniel Miller proprietor of the Dauphin Hotel in Harrisburg, survived a gunshot wound believed aimed to teach him a lesson after a dining room dispute with Leon Gilbert. Gilbert, described as a mulatto, claimed no intent to kill. Miller weighs 240 pounds and has many Cumberland Valley friends.

Funeral Services For John Oberlin

Loss of a Prominent Engineer Marked by Tragic Injury
William H. Hardy a longtime Chesapeake and Ohio Railway engineer died in Hinton West Virginia after injuries from escaping steam on his engine. He was 46 and survived by a wife Mamie Bender six children and two sisters and two brothers. Hardy a prominent Mason and locomotive brotherhood member resided in Hinton since youth and was remembered as a valued citizen and Christian church member.

The Business Men's Association of Winchester and Frederick County discussed a petition for a physical connection between the Cumberland Valley and the Baltimore and Ohio railroads near the Robinson ice plant on North Market Street.
