Edward Miller is found beside the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway east of the Arch bridge with a fractured skull and broken wrist. Officials entertain a murder theory and point to a possible quarrel with unnamed parties, narrowing suspects to those who could inflict such injuries.
Robert H Goode and Mary Goode were arrested as they attempted to tie their four children to Seaboard rails near Cox Home Road Dinwiddie County. Neighbors alerted officers who took them to Petersburg. The couple, formerly deemed insane, were committed to Central State Hospital. No clear motive emerged. The oldest child is 11. the youngest is an infant.
Staunton voters have shown cool indifference to the upcoming wet or dry election this summer. Most residents ignore heated rhetoric and expect the campaign to differ from past contests as both sides abandon imported orators. The public intends to rely on local experience from the last two years as reforms and tactics fade.

Milton M. Lupton a well known farmer of the southwest Frederick county area died suddenly between 11 and 12 o clock at his home three miles west of Opequon from a stroke of apoplexy aged 63 He had attended a Modern Woodmen lawn festival at Opequon the prior night and appeared in good health this morning
Mayor Baker is urged to push a local police census of Winchester this summer. R T McGuire of Farmers and Merchants National Bank offers to tabulate the forms free of charge. Winchester’s 1910 Federal census showed 5 864 residents, a figure many doubt. The city has grown since then and may exceed 6 800. The council is asked to consider action at the next meeting.
The Weather Bureau forecast for Virginia calls for unsettled conditions with local showers tonight or Wednesday and a somewhat cooler trend.

Scores from the Major Leagues show Newark defeating Washington 2 to 1. Detroit beat Chicago 6 to 3, and Philadelphia edged Boston 3 to 2. Pittsburgh defeated Cincinnati 6 to 3. Brooklyn at New York and St Louis at Philadelphia games were affected by rain. St Louis beat Chicago in a rain game.
A young woman named Viola Sherman, who had joined a carnival company in Culpeper, was taken into custody by Special Agent F. W. Semplee of the Southern Railway on arrival in Alexandria. She told police she had had enough of circus life and was sent to the Florence Crittenton home in Washington for care and confinement.
Charlestown West Virginia June 27 The Dan Rice circus closing at Harpers Ferry left many workers financially stranded with some unable to reach home or secure immediate work. An attempt to raise funds through a Harpers Ferry performance failed, and deputies proved unable to manage trained animals prompting reliance on pony companions. Most cast and crew moved on to Brunswick hopeful of new jobs with other outfits.
A young men’s nine from nearby colleges meets Berryville at Reservoir Park Friday at 3 pm. Admission is 15 cents to cover visiting team expenses, with plans for more games if attendance justifies it.
