Tragic Railroad Fatality In Ridgeway Virginia

Homer Barrow son of Mrs. William Swartz of Ridgeway was killed instantly when struck by a locomotive in Hagerstown Maryland yards while performing ash pit duties. He was 22 and had worked less than a month for Western Maryland. Funeral held at Paynes Chapel with Rev. Tyler officiating. interment in the church cemetery. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, a half-brother and sister, and his uncle Hubert Barrow.

Bandits Hold Up Tourist Train Near Ogden Utah

A train on the Oregon Short Line near Ogden Utah was robbed by bandits who seized about 5000 from passengers. The engineman and fireman were held at gunpoint as bandits looted Pullman cars of money jewelry and valuables. A large sheriff's posse pursued the robbers. they had missed a large shipment of cash in the first section but took a small haul in the express car.

A telegram from Annapolis to Winp verses says Midshipman Richard Evelyn Byrd Jr. of Virginia is ill with typhoid fever at the Royal Naval Hospital in Plymouth England. The Naval Academy notes the June 9 departure of a squadron including the Iowa Indiana and Massachusetts for a 10 000 mile foreign cruise.
