Ward Wins Virginia Senate Nomination Over Tavenner in Winchester Primary

Robert M. Ward won the Democratic nomination for the Virginia State Senate in the Winchester Frederick Shenandoah district defeating Judge Frank S. Tavenner. Ward carried Winchester and Frederick county by 565 votes while Tavenner carried Shenandoah by 423. Chiles defeated Rutherford for Frederick county treasurer by 412, Purcell beat Pannett by 288, Whitacre defeated Rinker by 92, and Lockhart narrowly won in Back Creek by one vote. The precinct totals show Ward 693 in Frederick, 418 in Winchester, with Shenandoah supporting Tavenner 936 to 513.

Miss Nellie Legg Weds Edward P Roberts in Winchester

Miss Nellie Virginia Legg, famed as a Winchester beauty, married Edward P Roberts of Baltimore at her father Legg's home. The ceremony was by Rev E E Northen of the First Baptist. They left for a wedding tour then plan to settle in Baltimore. Roberts, son of Mr and Mrs Louis Roberts, is a well known local visitor.

Winchester Takes Two From Atlantics

The Atlantic Athletic Club of Washington was no match for Winchester in a doubleheader, losing 13 to 1 and 13 to 0. The Atlantics' pitchers were struck hard as Winchester bats dominated. They departed for Washington yesterday as a three game series with the Wheatons of Wheaton, Md began this afternoon after a noon arrival.

Otho Hillyard Faces Jury For Winchester Murder Trial

Otho Nathaniel Hillyard a farm hand on the Taylor Ritter farm near Winchester is on trial for first degree murder in the death of Isaac B. Ritter at Mrs. Alexander Carlisle's home on Ballard road. Commonwealth Attorney Steck leads the case with defense by Byrd and Reardon as witnesses testify. The trial drew a large, mixed crowd including many local residents and women.

Sager And Murray Cases Postponed

Thomas F. Sager and John Murray, sought by federal authorities in West Virginia for liquor sale tax violations, see their cases postponed to November. They appeared in Parkersburg before the United States Court, released on bail for Phillippi, West Virginia, as attorney Harry R. Kern represents Murray.
