The public school at John Kerr Public School building hosts a morning ceremony with 650 pupils marching to Mount Hedron Cemetery to honor former principal Capt J C Van Fossen and teachers Lizzie Price Nora C Knot.
A high society wedding joined Miss Helen Marguerite Price and Mr. Edgar Walton Newman, son of Judge E D Newman. The ceremony occurred Monday at River Lawn near New Market, with Rev J B Meintorff officiating. Newman serves as assistant cashier at Citizens Bank and treasurer of the Valley Turnpike Company. The bride is the daughter of Mrs Berryman Z Price. music featured Katharine R Glass. A gold bracelet marked M D S was reported lost and offers a reward.
Rev Dr and Mrs James Grammer have returned from Clarke County where they visited for several weeks at the home of Mr Jack Ware.
Anne E Shryock Marks widow of Jacob A Marks died Sunday afternoon at her daughter's home in Roanoke after a few weeks illness. Born May 29 1831 in Stephens City she lived in Roanoke Berryville and Richmond with her children. She leaves nine children 23 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral Monday at 5 from the house conducted by Rev T O Keister with six sons as pallbearers. Buried at Fairview. She was a Lutheran. Her husband was a lieutenant in Stonewall Jacksons Brigade.
A. W. Bailey & Company erected one of the citys largest and finest signs in front of their department store. The sign is designed in green and gold and the store provides stools and sanitary facilities for patrons and staff.
Children’s day program planned for Sunday June 18 at 8 p m at Southern Methodist Sunday school Round Hill. The event features a musical and literary program under the direction of Mr B J Evans Winchester the well known superintendent.
Good and Company sold the hose and lot at 319 Highland avenue from Tovella E. P. Clark to Misses Emma and Laura Eddy.
The Friends announce their annual circular meeting on Sunday June 18 at 10 a.m. at the Ridge meeting house and 3 p.m. at the M E Church South in Gainesboro. Joel Barton of the Philadelphia yearly meeting will attend. All are invited.
Senator and Mrs. Robert M. Ward depart for New York and plan to sail Saturday for Europe. They aim to reach London in time for coronation festivities and will spend most of the summer touring continental Europe.
Ben Turner and Catherine Jackson widow were married last night at her home in the northeast part of the city. Both are colored.

Dr Alfred Jones a former moderator of the Virginia Synod has been called as pastor for Presbyterian churches at Vaucluse Kernstown and Round Hill. He has pastored Collierstown Pulaski and Montgomery and is brother in law to Rev J H Lacy of Winchester. It is hoped he accepts the calls and strengthens regional religious influence.
Many friends in Winchester learn that Prof A Magill Smith former principal of the Episcopal Female Institute has improved health since spending the summer in Nantucket Mass. He resides in Markham Virginia and was accompanied by Mrs Smith and their daughters and families.

Miss Rosalie Lawrence McCormick and Horace Gilbert Smithy were married at Grace Episcopal Church in Berryville in a ceremony featuring organ music and a crimson rambler pink peony decor. A large reception followed at Rose Hill, the McCormick home, before the couple set off on an extended trip. The wedding drew Clarke county’s social spotlight with prominent local families in attendance.
Mr Edward Grant of near Clearbrook sold about 41 acres to Mr Taverner Thomas of Sharon Pennsylvania for 400 dollars an acre. The land is largely apple trees about ten years old and includes a dwelling built years ago by Mr Grants father. Thomas, a civil engineer, has been working on the Panama Canal and will relocate his family to Frederick County after completing work in Panama.
Mrs. R. D. Hardesty wife of a noted Berryville merchant in Clarke County suffered a severe stroke at her home last evening and is in serious condition. Her son Frank D Hardesty a Washington businessman arrived in Winchester and then went to Berryville with his brother Dr. George Hardesty.
A two hour program features A Wartime Escape or the Romance of a Dixie Girl from Kalem war stories and a fine vitigraph Though the Seas Divide. The show promises strong wartime escapism and romance in a classic cinema lineup.
Reverend Knott, who led Warrenton Methodist Episcopal Church South for two years, has withdrawn from the Methodist conference and resigned his current charge as he begins construction on a new church in Warrenton.

McGuire of Hoboken, Dr. and Mrs. J J McCormick of Norfolk, Dr. and Mrs. Walter Cox of Winchester, Hugh Holmes McCormick of Charlestown, Judge Thomas Wilcox and L M Childrey of Norfolk, and Charles M Broun of Roanoke.
George Maddagan and Miss Lola Beatty quietly married yesterday afternoon at the bride’s aunt’s home on West Germain street. Rev. J. W. Matden officiated. the couple will visit Clarke County and Warren County before settling on a Nineveh-area farm. Friends in Winchester extend best wishes.

The wedding of Miss Nellie Ray Diffenderfer to Mr. John Smith was held at 8:30 in the morning at the Diffenderfer home corner Braddock and Leicester streets. The bride wore a gray tailor made suit, and a small gathering of relatives attended the ceremony performed by Rev. Dr James R.A. emeritus of the PIGE in Winchester. A refined wedding breakfast followed and the couple departed by Baltimore Railroad train for New York, later sailing aboard the Columbia. The bride is the daughter of Captain and Mrs Diffenderfer.
