Brakeman Squeezed Between Cars in Halltown Mishap
R Bruce Russell a noted brakeman on the Baltimore and Ohio Valley Division narrowly escaped death when he was squeezed between running boards while a way freight shifted cars at Halltown West Virginia. He suffered chest and shoulder injuries but kept a grip on the car and survived the peril. He was sent back to Brunswick for rest as another man resumed his duties.

Hopkins University Appoints Instructor as Student Assistant
Prof Henry A Converse formerly taught at Shenandoah Valley Academy in Winchester received a letter from John Hopkins University President Remsen notifying him of his appointment as Student Assistant in Mathematics for 1902 1903. Potter Sues Newport News Over Sewer Contract

Runaway Horse Causes Minor Damage and Pastor Rumsey Smithson Dies
A runaway horse attached to Sheriff Gore’s buggy dashed through Water Street before crashing into a county stall. No one was injured, but a wheel was damaged. Intelligence arrives of Rev Rumsey Smithson of Baltimore Conference, South, dying at Mansfield Ohio after a long ministry. He served 46 years and held multiple district and pastor roles including Winchester and Washington Districts. Surviving are three children: Mrs Champlane, Rumsey Smithson Jr., and W H Smithson.

Forty Years In Federal Employ
William McKericher formerly of this city died in Washington on Wednesday. Born in Perth Scotland in 1836 he came to the United States and worked over forty years in the Agriculture Department when a bureau. He served six months in district volunteers at the Civil War outbreak guarding the Capital. Survived by a widow two sons and two daughters.
