Orchard and garden notes for seasonal sowings and care
Frequent sowings of vegetables through the season are advised. Prepare rich warm soil for melons, tie grapes to trellises with crowding shoots removed. Mulch newly planted trees and shrubs to prevent drying. Chicken wire supports for peas and pole beans cost little beyond brush. Dwarf Ama beans suit easy cultivation. tomatoes may be staked, trimming to one or two branches for better fruit. Get to know flowering shrubs in bloom and consider moving native varieties to the yard.
