Paris dispatches report the French submarine Vendimaire with 26 crew aboard was rammed by the battleship Saint Louis during maneuvers off Cherbourg. All hands were lost as the vessel sank in 80 feet, divers failed to reach it, and rapid sinking suggested catastrophic hull damage.
Fashionable society from New York, Newport, and Jersey attended the Plainfield New Jersey horse show. Davis Conrad of Winchester, a New York lawyer and New York National Guard Troop A member, won the large officers’ charges class riding his horse Prince Arthur, securing the top prize.

John W. North of Martinsburg operate locust pin factory near the Standard Oil plant on the B and O rails line between Market and Kent streets. Several sharp turning machine bits flew out just before noon striking his right arm, fracturing bones. North was taken home in great pain, Dr. Walter Cox arrived, anesthesia given, arm set, and he rested but in pain with no complications reported yet.
Pathe Weekly and Kiddies Xmas present a five reel program at the Auditorium tonight. The feature is Kiddies Xmas with two reels and three additional short reels. Parents are urged to bring children to see the festive program in Winchester.
Reuben Montgomery a 22 year old colored man formerly of this city died yesterday in Washington of tuberculosis. He was the son of Hattie Fields brother of Samuel Montgomery and nephew of Aunt Lottie Walker of this city. His remains will reach here at 7 10 o clock this evening by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and funeral services will be held on Sunday.
Mrs L R Clevenger of near Welltown churned 36 pounds of butter on Thursday. It stands as one of the largest churnings by a Frederick county woman in a single day.

Rev Luke R Markwood hurried five miles to a parsonage where Elwood Twigg of Cumberland Maryland and Edith May Elwood of Vancleve Jefferson county West Virginia were married. The ceremony ended with the couple departing by the Cumberland Valley Railroad. Twigg works there.

The Shenandoah Valley Academy in Winchester ended another strong year with graduation exercises at Handley Auditorium. Dr. B M Roszel presided as diplomas were awarded to Richard Trescott Hildreth Wheeling W Va William P Perry Charlestown W Va Delmar Robinson Winchester and Whiting C Faulkner Martinsburg W Va. Rev Dr J H Lacy addressed the graduates and medals were presented by R Gray Williams. A large student dance followed at the Winchester Inn. Three Robinson endowment scholarships were announced for Woodhull Baker Stewart Wirgman and Seddon Lacy, with Henry Clay Hodgson named Shenandoah Valley Academy student at the University of Virginia.
William Shreck was arrested by Officer Neville near the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad station on a drunk and disorderly charge after attending a parade. He was fined $8 and $1.50 costs.
Mr. H. C. Shull and his daughter Miss Marguerite Shull have been visiting at the home of Mrs. a Main Street resident.
The Friendship Fire Company and band are offered a $1 25 round trip on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to Hagerstown Maryland for the Maryland Firemen's Association meeting June 12 to 14. Many members express willingness to attend and a special meeting called by Captain Grim Monday night will decide if they go. The reel team has decided to enter the race.

The funeral of the late H. Shanholtz father of V. Oates of this city was held Thursday evening at his home near Cha. The years old, a respected local figure, survived by Mrs. Oxtes, another daughter Trace McFarland of Chambers, and a son W. F. Siaimhs of the same place.
