Death of Capt William W Old Virginia lawyer and veteran
Captain William W Old of Norfolk died suddenly at 70 from acute indigestion. A distinguished Virginia bar member, he served in the Confederate army on staff to Generals Wise Johnston Ewell and Jubal Early, was wounded in 1864 at Florence Alabama, and represented Virginia at Episcopal Church conventions. He was father of Dr Edward H H Old and Mrs John Stone Stump. He leaves other relatives.

Benjamin Wesley Cator of Armstrong, Cator & Company died at his home near Baltimore from a complication of diseases. He had been ill for years and retired two years ago. Born in Baltimore county on March 2, 1844, he was the son of Capt. and Mrs. Joseph Cator. He is survived by his widow Florence Cator, a son, and a stepdaughter.

Runaway Crash Injures Miss Gardner and Cousin in White Hall
Gladys Gardner and her cousin Dewey Brown were injured when a harness snap failed and their horse bolted down a hill in White Hall Virginia. City Hospital funds cleared after court attachment

Grand jury summons issued in Winchester liquor sales probe
A large number of white and colored men received subpoenas to appear before the grand jury at the Corporation Court in City Hall at 10 tomorrow morning. The panel is to consider charges about illegal sale of liquor in Winchester while some summonsed men claim ignorance of the charges. The grand jury will also hear the case of William Snapp accused of breaking into John P. Sartelle’s confectionery last week.

Miss Minnie Brunk of Wenger's Mill Rockingham county waded into Linville Creek to confront a huge turtle. B and C Buys Rock Bluff Land For Railroad Ballast
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company bought fourteen acres along the bluff between Weyer's Cave and North River station. They reportedly paid $125 per acre to Bettie Rubush J W Calhoun H V Tutwiler and wife. The rock mass will be quarried to ballast and a dangerous curve between Staunton and Harrisonburg may be straightened. Supt Spurrier said ballast from the site will be laid on the Valley road within a year and heavier rails installed replacing worn ones.

The Friendship Fire Company reel team returned to Winchester after winning $100 in gold at Luray during the home-coming celebration. They stopped the 150 yard hose race in 28 seconds, beating Shenandoah City 82.17 seconds and Strasburg 35.5 seconds. The Shenandoah City team claimed second prize, Strasburg third, and Charlestown and Hirri denburg showed mixed results.
