Horse Thief Captured After Long Chase Across States
Adam Anderson alias Charles Jones, about 30, arrested for stealing a heavy draft gray horse from J. F. Hildebrand near Sharpsburg Maryland. The pursuit spanned Washington County, Hagerstown, Weverton, Harper's Ferry, Charlestown, Berryville and Winchester before a liveryman bought the horse for $15. Anderson claimed Charlestown as residence and insisted the animal was traded. Officers and witnesses prepared for grand jury testimony in Clarke County.

A letter from New York’s Confederate Camp member J. Ransome requested recommendation for entry to the Richmond Soldiers Home, mentioning Harpers Ferry service and a Winchester relative. the camp will pursue details at the next meeting.

Unconscious Man Trapped While Building Barn in Millwood

Reports from Capon Bridge detail an apparent rabies outbreak among livestock as dogs suspected of hydrophobia die after severe agony. A dog owned by L C Oates died after a suspected interaction with a mad dog, and a cow on the same property dies in agony. More cattle are dying and an epidemic is feared.
