Major Conrad Wins A Great Victory At Washington Trial

Major Holmes Conrad directed the government in a six week post office conspiracy trial in Washington. The jury found all four defendants guilty after he led the prosecution aided by Milton J. Pardy and Morgan H. Beach. Conrad, recently in fragile health, returned home for rest and will oversee prosecutions of remaining defendants.

Cora Ailstock Narrowly Reduces Sentence on Appeal

In City Court the judgment of the Police Court was affirmed in the assault case of Cora Ailstock colored against her husband Mack White. Her six month sentence was reduced to 90 days after an appeal conference between defense counsel and the Prosecuting Attorney. She was ill at the time of sentencing and examined at home by Dr. P W Boyd before being taken to jail to serve the sentence.

Miss Katie Derflinger daughter of Mr James Derflinger died at 3 am after a long illness with consumption. She was 18. Besides her parents she leaves several brothers and sisters. Funeral at 12 30 pm tomorrow with Rev T J Feaster of Tom's Brook Va officiating and burial at Hottle's graveyard.

Mrs Grace Dalgetty Kerr of Abingdon Virginia, guest of her sister Mrs DC Fred Barr, rushed to Abingdon after a telegram from a physician about her husband's illness. She left Boyce last night and traveled by train on the Norfolk and Western to Abingdon, arrival noted this morning. Telegram gave no illness details.

Charles A. Evans, a well known young businessman and firefighter, died at 3 10 am at his parents home 821 North Main Street after a four day battle with pneumonia. The illness began with a Monday night chill and progressed rapidly despite medical care. The town of Winchester mourns the sudden loss of a prominent local figure.
