Arson Suspected in Lenore Cumberland Valley Station Fire
Fire destroyed the Cumberland Valley Railroad station at Lenore three miles north of Winchester early Sunday. Losses include the Swimley general store and four carloads of baled hay. total value around several thousand dollars. A railroad detective was investigating and a break in occurred at Swimley’s shop, suggesting robbery before arson.

A special term of the grand jury in Corporation Court returned felony indictments against Arthur Shorts and Floyd Bell. Shorts is charged with setting fire to James Hodgson’s stable and posted bail at 300 dollars. Bell faces felonious extortion charges involving William Good and is in jail awaiting trial. Young Farmer Dies From Tuberculosis
Edward W. Stickles, a prominent young farmer from this county, died Saturday night at his Millwood road home near Winchester at age 36 after a long battle with bone tuberculosis. He left parents, a widow, several children, brother Robert Lee Stickles, and sister Corinhe Stickles. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the home, with interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery conducted by Rev. Mr. Smith.

Ruffner Baptized In Winter Waters
Hundreds witnessed the baptism of Lester Ruffner and his wife in Hawks Bill Creek at Luray on Sunday afternoon. Ruffner has two recent circuit court convictions in Page county including murder and attempted murder, and awaits transfer to prison for a three year term. Elder D. W. Eye Injury in Orchard Spray Incident
Mr. L. M. Boyer, a noted county farmer and fruit grower, sustained a severe eye injury when frozen spray pipes forced lime and sulphur fluid into his face at his Sense ney Road orchard. Friends and Standard Oil associates attended and the company sent a floral tribute. Burial was in Mount Hebron Cemetery. His widow is prostrated by the loss and unable to attend.

Wealthy Clarke man injured in cart accident
Graham F. Blandy, a wealthy New Yorker and Carnegie relative, was thrown from his high cart near Boyce. He suffered a facial gash, chin wound, bruises, and shock but was not critically hurt and later stabilized at his home. The horse bolted as a passenger train neared the station, breaking the cart fender with only minor vehicle damage.

Tragic Railroad Brake Man Killed Near Carlisle
William H. Railing a freight brake man from Hagerstown died after being run over by a car at Gettysburg Junction near Carlisle while loading a switch with horses. He slipped under the car and lost both legs above the hips, dying at Carlisle’s Todd Hospital. He was 32, survived by his wife Flora and two children Ruth and Howard, and lived with his mother and sisters in Hagerstown. The body was returned to Hagerstown.

Reverdy Johnson is ill at home on 621 St. Paul Street Baltimore nearing his eightieth birthday. He is the last surviving son of Reverdy Johnson who served as Attorney General in Tyler’s cabinet and as U S Senator. His brother Captain Kaward C. Johnson died last summer in Clarke County.
