The eleventh annual Farmers Institute opened at Frederick county City Hall Auditorium with Judge Atkinson delivering an address of welcome. Speakers included Prof S B Heiges on fruit culture and Mr Thwaite on farm labor issues, while Miss Nannie Forsythe sang. The Junior Orchestra provided music as residents arrived.

Hon. Harry P. McDonald, Kentucky Legislature member and prominent Louisville architect, died at his home after a five day illness from pneumonia. Born 1846 near Winchester Virginia, he entered the Confederacy with his father Col Angus McDonald. Survived by widow and daughter Miss Fannie McDonald and half sister Mrs John B Stanard of Berryville.

Philanthropist Griffith Dies at Ninety in Baltimore

Middletown man wins trip to World’s Fair in St Louis
Mr. Charles E. Edmondson of Middletown has won a free five day trip to the World's Fair in St Louis. The prize was offered by Mutual Safe Insurance Company of New York for the greatest amount of insurance written between November 1 1903 and April 1 1904. Edmondson learned of his win in Washington from Thomas P. Morgan Virginia manager. He plans to attend the fair in June.

Faust Presented At The Auditorium By Noted Players
Faust was staged at the Auditorium last night by a capable company in a dramatic rendition of Goethe's poem. Mr James E Custy 23 died this morning at his mother's toll gate home after a long illness of consumption. Funeral at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Catholic Cemetery. Survived by mother Bridget Custy sister Mary E Custy of near Winchester and brothers William S Custy of this city and Michael D Custy of Roanoke. He had been to Johns Hopkins for treatment and was an altar boy before.

First Rural Free Delivery Route Authorized in Clarke County
The Post Office Department authorizes Clarke County's first rural free delivery route to begin April 1 with one carrier from Boyce. The route runs north along the pike to Beavers' lane then to John Hess' corner near Old Salem Church, through Millwood, Berry's, Bowles, and back to Boyce. Courtney Jones named carrier.

The fourth quarterly conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church met last night at Market Street Church. Presiding Elder W. S. McKeaney preached his last sermon before retirement at the next Baltimore Conference, after a four year term. A resolution regretted his departure and wished him God speed. The financial report pleased the gathered members. The conference unanimously requested the return of Rev. I. Weede to Market Street Church for the next year.

Oakland Fire Destroys Clarke County Estate Oakland
The Clarke county residence Oakland owned by Alexander R. Pendleton of Winchester was burned to the ground at noon. The 30 room house valued around 10 to 12 thousand dollars stood on the Gaylord farm and was said to be partially insured. Neighbors aided but flames driven by wind prevented saving possessions.
