Fires devastate West Virginia town as two die
Special to The Star from Ei West Virginia reports multiple houses burned after a coal oil lamp toppled in the home of Bert Parker. BeBe Parker and children perished. Parker’s husband and others were seriously burned. Rescue efforts saved some property as a calm night aided containment. two other children were severely burned but may recover. The disaster also endangered William Henderson and Charles Jackson homes, with firefighters aided by local volunteers and a Winchester engine.

Woman severely burned in James Street stove accident
A one year old colored woman, wife of Jefferson Mennifield, was severely burned at home on James Street around 8 o clock when oil spilled on a stove and exploded. Flames engulfed her clothing as her husband and another man fought the fire. She suffered extensive burns to her face hands and hair and was taken to Memorial Hospital in precarious condition. Dr. Glass said she may recover.

Five Lake children injured in Shenandoah oil explosion
Five children aged five to fifteen were badly burned when a coal oil can exploded at James Lake's home near Strasburg in Shenandoah County. Six year old Iva Lake died.
