4000 mile Spin Scores and Winter School Play
J W Gardham, famed for the 1910 Glidden tour, passes through Winchester en route from Jacksonville to Detroit in a Chalmers tourer. He says the over 4000 mile test, in winter, proves the car’s ruggedness as roads are poor. Nine hours cover 60 miles Martinsville to Roanoke, a sharp contrast to the quicker Valley Pike crossing Staunton. The trip’s last leg leaves for Philadelphia. The Winchester mid winter entertainments, at City Hall Auditorium, drew a large audience and featured local student talent in songs, pantomimes, and plays. Proceeds support equipping the science department of the high school.

Prominent Winchester Merchant Dies After Illness
Prominent Winchester merchant Solomon H. Hable died at his son's Baltimore home after a brief pneumonia illness at age 72. Born in Baltimore in 1838, he moved to Winchester in 1872 and built a clothing and furnishings business. He was a longtime Mason and trustee of Hiram Lodge and leaves wife Rosina, three sons Jacob Fred and Herman, daughter Rosale, and sister Carrie Mayerson. Funeral services will be in Baltimore with burial at Baltimore Hebrew Cemetery, conducted by the Masonic order.
