Severe winter weather causes widespread hardship among the city and county poor. Federated Charities and Associated Charities appeal for money, food, or clothing to aid those hit by the cold. Contributions can be sent to Miss Strickler at the Farmers and Merchants National Bank or to Dr. Hunter H. McGuire, treasurer, West Water Street.

Edward Townsend, noted editor, was found dead near his home in Garden City after exposure. His body was partially buried under a snowdrift at the foot of his residence, authorities said.

Mrs. T Reed and Mrs. W H Reed left for Baltimore to attend the funeral of Willie McKim Jenkins who died suddenly at his Baltimore home. Funeral planned for Thursday in Baltimore cemeteries. Jenkins will not be brought to Winchester for burial. Information from Baltimore letters states Mr Jenkins collapsed after a Sunday visit at a friend’s home. After medical efforts failed, his death shocked Winchester residents.
The annual farmers institute in Winchester was indefinitely postponed because snowy roads left only a slim attendance. Organizers plan to reschedule later in winter or early spring and will announce new dates. Several speakers had traveled to the town but left as postponement was decided.

Members of the Friendship Fire Company attended services in the Christian Church on Sunday evening where a special sermon was preached by the pastor Rev. William Walters, chaplain of the company. Every seat was occupied and attendance was very large.
