Upon bid acceptance construction will advance, creating a major regional public improvement second only to nearby Shenandoah River bridges at Berry's and Castleman's ferries. Dinner honors Mr J W Crews as assistant manager of Southern Belt Telegraph Company with Clarke County guests Mr H F Byrd and Mr Bunn in attendance.

Rev. C. H. Buchanan preached at the local church for two youngsters of Mr and Mrs Turner Crim who died of diphtheria last fall. The town discusses Thaw trial news and a proposed tax on bachelors over twenty five as residents read the proceedings by fireside.
Joseph F Crismore 22 and Miss Tenna McKee 21 married yesterday evening at Rev H M Strickler's residence White Post Clarke County Methodist Church. The groom is son of John Crismore a Washington DC police officer. They left for Washington to spend their honeymoon and will reside in Clarke County.
Frank King a 55 year old white laborer at Happy Creek Warren County was captured at Berryville jail after he shot at W R Lake and Superintendent Lackey in Lake's store. King claimed he was seeking to buy shoes. He fought off officers before surrendering and awaits Warren County grand jury action. King had maintained a previously good reputation despite the alleged murderous assault.
Burnt Factory reports severe grip illnesses a harsh winter with temperatures down to seventeen degrees below zero. Mrs Swimley recovers from illness while H H Hoffman leaves Hoffman Bros woolen mill, to be replaced by W T Hoffman. A surprise party for Mr and Mrs J M Fishpaw at Forest Glen drew about fifty guests from Frederick Clark and Berkeley counties.

Mrs Bolton, wife of one juror in the Thaw trial, died of pneumonia at a New York hospital. The juror was in the jury box when informed and collapsed with emotion, a development that is expected to delay the proceedings.
The Alexandria Gazette notes the death of Sir William H. Russell, famed English war correspondent. His 1861 Bull Run retreat described as one of the era's most humorous scenes, with Washington crowds fleeing in open hacks amid overturned wagons and champagne. Russell had been sent by the London Times to cover the conflict. He later returned to England and became known as Bull Run Russell.
Report spread in Winchester that Evelyn Nesbit Thaw was shot by Stanford White's son during the Thaw trial in New York. Wire service checks showed no morning court session. the afternoon focused on Dr. Evans the alienist.
Berryville February 14. George C Shepherd paralyzed with little hope of recovery. He is a well known Berryville figure and a Civil War veteran who served in the Parke Cavalry and left a noted Confederate record. He is the son of the late Champ Shepherd of this county.
The Daughters of Pocahontas hosted a Valentine Social at Cameron Hall last night. Refreshments and valentines were sold, souvenirs given to each guest, and a delightful dance followed at Br. home.
News from Whitacre County reports Dr William B Hollis, a prominent local physician, suffered a stroke and remains in critical condition. He had been ill since Tuesday night, regained some consciousness today, and his attending doctors include Dr Baker and Dr Latane. Known as a friend to the poor, he once drove ten miles through snow to treat charity patients despite weakness. He served in the Confederate Army and has a daughter in Strasburg.
Clyde Elliott, 17, son of Mr and Mrs M B Elliott, died at 2 PM at his Gainesboro home after weeks with consumption. He leaves three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM at the Elliott home with Rev W Marks of the Methodist Church officiating. burial at Gainesboro.
The Star reports Thomas Stadden was found dead in his Clarke County barn. His body will be buried in Milton, Pennsylvania, on Saturday after services at his late home tomorrow afternoon conducted by Rev. G. H. Buchanan of Bruce town Methodist Church.
William Shipley, a lineman for the Winchester and Washington City Electric Railway, fell about twenty five feet from a pole near Berryville while stringing wires. The safety belt broke during splicing, causing painful injuries and several days in bed. Miss Willie McGuire departed for Baltimore to study music at the Peabody Conservatory.
The audience filled the auditorium last night for Opie Read of Chicago presenting First one Thing and Then Another under The Star Course. Read wowed with a superb voice and masterful storytelling blending humor and pathos as he mocked the United States Senate as a gambling house.
News from Winchester reports the death of Hallie A Gillenwater in Washington DC from a stroke. She was wife of J J Gillenwater and mother of Corinne Gillenwater Hambridge who was a frequent visitor to Winchester.
