Death of John Gilmer Found in Elkton Hollow Tree
The 21 year old John Gilmer was found dead in a hollow tree two weeks decomposed near Elkton toward the Blue Ridge. Dogs and birds had eaten the face and clothing was torn leaving the body unrecognizable until a bank book and letters identified him. A coroner's inquest returned a verdict of death from unknown causes.
