Man walks 100 miles to count Bell poles
J Carson Yeakley began a three week to month long trek from Winchester to Staunton along the Valley Pike to count Southern Bell Telephone Company poles. He will earn 1.50 per day plus expenses, sleeping and meals at inns, using his own feet as transport. He started at Negnan's livery stable at Braddock and Amherst Streets at seven this morning.

Arm injury leads to death at Strasburg Hospital
J H Thompson aged 32 died yesterday at Strasburg Hospital from a mashed right arm caused at the mines near Happy Creek Warren County on Wednesday when a heavy iron bar fell on him. The arm was removed at the shoulder but gangrene developed. He leaves a wife and four children. The body was sent to Front Royal yesterday evening.

Miss Mary Lee, daughter of the late Col. Richard Lee of Clarke County, is in critical condition after a buggy runaway on the Berryville road near Millwood. Her scalp was torn off when the horse bolted and she struck a wire fence near Dr. Philip Burrell’s home. she was taken to the Jones residence and then to Dr. Robert C. Randolph. Witnesses including Police Magistrate W. M. Struder aided. Doctors say recovery is doubtful and she remains partly conscious.

Beavers Convicted in Postal Fraud Case

Explosion Victim Lads Hurt In Field Fire
Two boys playing near a blacksmith shop near the wagon road set off caps and fire and an explosion ripped clothing from the larger boy and burned him severely. The smaller boy, Braithwaite and Mrs Foulk were injured but the smaller escaped more lightly. Dr Barne arrived but could not save the older boy.
