Ezra Hauptman of the county sustained a painful right ankle laceration yesterday after his horse slipped on an icy road and fell. Dr. Fred Cochran treated him. injuries are painful but not serious, and he rests as easy as can be expected.

A bill in the Senate seeks to bar non residents from being appointed special commissioners of sale by court decree. If enacted, future court orders must name county based attorneys. Senator Smith of Clarke County argued the reciprocity measure aims to prevent Virginia attorneys from acting for out of state parties.

Col William Henry Stewart died Friday night at his home in Portsmouth Virginia. He led troops in the Crater battle and commanded the United Confederate Veterans. A noted historian, he wrote on the Crater battle and Tidewater Virginia. He was 73.

Dr John Latane a former history professor at Washington and Lee University in Lexington Virginia has been offered the presidency of the University of Montana. State educational authorities urge him to accept while Latane weighs the decision. Latane is a brother of the late Dr S P Latane of Winchester and has many Virginia Valley friends who would regret his departure.
