Erastus Wiman Dies Friend of Rouse and Staten Island Pioneer
Erastus Wiman, longtime friend of Charles Broadway Rousse, died after earning wealth at one time valued around fifty million dollars. He influenced Rousse to buy and develop on Staten Island and supported him when Rousse was penniless. William Wood Gold, aged 44, deputy clerk of Frederick County Circuit Court, died January 28 in Puerto Cortes Honduras from yellow fever. He practiced medicine and ran a drug business in Central America for ten years, returning to Maryland last summer before returning to Honduras. He survived by five sisters and five brothers.
