Two Attempts To Fire Davis College Reported
Two attempts to burn Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia were made within ten days. A prompt blaze discovery prevented major damage the first time, and students and professors quickly confined the second fire. The college arose from a $50,000 gift by Senator Stephen B. Elkins and ex Senator Henry G. Davis to the Lexington presbytery, which matched with another sum, while ex Senator Davis also provided an endowment of about $100,000.
