Cedar Rust Fight Spurs Cedar Destruction In Frederick County

Thousands of apple trees are being felled as Frederick County mobilizes against cedar rust. A Winchester meeting heard Prof. G. C. Starcher explain the cedar rust threat tied to cedar trees near orchards and urged eradicating cedars within one to two miles to save the apple industry.

Winchester resident John Eaton badly injured in bicycle collision

Mr. John Paton of Winchester lies at his home after a Sunday afternoon accident on Potter’s Pike. He suffered numerous cuts and bruises when struck or hit by an automobile near Market and Main. He was found unconscious and treated by doctors before returning home.

William Arthur Seibert age 52 died at 1:20 Sunday at his Millwood Avenue home from a complication of diseases. He worked as an engineer for Old Dominion Paper Company and Virginia Wooden Company. Funeral 2:30 Tuesday at his home with Rev. J. Duffey. interment Mount Hebron Cemetery. Survived by widow Ida Seibert and four sons Percy L Seibert, Clyde Seibert, Emmart Seibert, and Walter Seibert.

Fire destroys large barn on Prof Funk's farm

A barn on Prof. Hugh A Funk’s Stephens City farm burned at about 4 am destroying feed and implements. Five horses, three mules and three cows perished. two cows were later euthanized. The owner left the barn locked Sunday night and could not save stock or equipment. Estimated loss exceeds 38 000 with 1 100 to 1 200 insurance.

Death Comes Sudden to Miss Octavia Kline in Vaucluse

Miss Octavia Kline, longtime school teacher and member of the prominent Kline family, died suddenly after a surgical operation at Memorial Hospital. She passed away while plans to bring her home from the hospital were being made. She was born May 20, 1873, and survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Kline and siblings Clara, Lucy, and Leslie. The funeral was held at Vaucluse with Rev. Alfred Jones officiating and interment in Middletown Cemetery.

Amyl- Kijo Claims Cure for Mumps in 24 Hours

In Winchester Virginia a reader reports suffering mumps on both sides for six to seven days. After using Amyl- Kijo they claim to be well within one day. The letter promotes Amyl-Kijo for pneumonia and all germ diseases and is signed A A Jenkins. An unrelated note mentions Mr G Graham Baker confined at home with grip.

Wm. Arnold Dies In County After Illness at 69

Wm. Arnold of near Atmel died Saturday afternoon at age 69 after a long illness. A harness maker until recently he traveled countywide, served in the Twelfth Virginia Infantry in the Civil War, and was survived by Oneida, Robert Arnold of Kernstown, and two daughters, with his wife Amanda Gardner having died years earlier. Funeral held at Macedonia Church with Rev. W. B. Dorsey officiating.

Passes Away As He Predicted

Harry Campbell aged 16 son of R Campbell died near Cumberland from typhoid fever yesterday. His mother sat by his bedside and a mantel clock that had not run for two years struck two. He said mother that is for me and at 2 o clock I will be gone and just at 2 o clock he passed away.

Death of Annie Marie Hodgson Twin Child Dies at Home

Annie Marie Hodgson one of Clifton M. Hodgson and wife twins died Sunday at their Lowth Market Street home two weeks after birth. Rev Dr J W Duffey to conduct funeral at 10 am Tuesday with interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Mrs J Williams leaves for Chambersburg Pa to visit niece Mrs Aughbaugh. Found bunch of keys.
