Mortimer Harkins, foreman for carpenters at the Home Savings Bank building, fell from the fifth floor to the basement at Seventh and K streets NW in Washington. He sustained three broken ribs, a punctured lung, and scalp wounds but is expected to recover if no complications arise. His wife, Bessie Kremer Harkins, previously of Winchester, rushed to be with him after the telegram from Washington.

Young Couple Elopes From Stephens City to Hagerstown

President Russell Denies Rumor of Bank Merger

The funeral of Major Walter A. Donaldson, superintendent of the National Cemetery at Baltimore, was held yesterday from his home to the cemetery. Reverend Peregrine Wroth led services. A. W. Dodge Post, G A R, directed. A large crowd attended. Carroll citizens sent a wreath. marching bands accompanied the body to the grave. The grave caved in earlier delaying the service. a new grave was prepared.

Attempted assassination near Middletown parlor fires miss
A Winchester man visiting a young woman in Middletown was shot at through a parlor window last Friday night. The bullet lodged in the wall near his head as investigators searched for the unknown attacker. No arrests have been reported.
