Unique Funeral Tribute Fitting Musician and Veteran Eiker
Mrs. Charles W. Fries learns of the death of her uncle David M. Eiker in Franklin County Pennsylvania. The funeral in Chambersburg included a monster massed horn and cornet band made up of all local players. Eiker, born 1821 in Adams County, was a cabinetmaker by trade and longtime undertaker before his capture after Gettysburg. He later worked with H. Sierers & Co. and was active in Masons Odd Fellows and local militias. He leaves a wife who died in 1900.

The ladies of the Presbyterian churches of Winchester and Frederick county invite members to a meeting Friday February 6 at 3 30 PM at Mrs P W Boyd s Fairmont Ave to arrange furnishing a room in the Memorial Hospital to be known as the Presbyterian Room. This effort should gain approval from the Hospital Board and public.

Major Walter A Donaldson 76 a veteran actor sailor and soldier is critically ill at his Baltimore home from blood poisoning in the left arm following a hand injury while mending a rainspout. Surgeons operated draining the arm and his recovery remains uncertain. Born in England in 1827 he began on stage as a boy and later sailed the seas before joining the U S forces and acting in Winchester society.

Infernal Machine Hoax Sparks Winchester Panic
A mysterious package found by Mifflin Clowe in the Taylor House alley sparked police and public fear of a plot to kill city officials. Justice Bragonier ordered the item removed to Police Court, then to City Sergeant Taylor for investigation. At Mr. N A Cooper’s repair shop the package was opened revealing no bomb, just an ordinary parcel.

Robbed Benefactress While He Ate
A tramp is accused of stealing an umbrella from Mr. John Snyder while Mrs. Snyder prepared him a meal. Sergeant J. W. Taylor and Officer C. E. Neville pursued the thief through saloons on north Main Street, capturing him and recovering the umbrella. He faces two charges at tomorrow morning’s proceeding.

Smart horse fills Duke's Place at Sarah Zane Fire Company
Through courtesy of Mr Edward Grant the Sarah Zane Fire Company obtained a probationary horse to replace Duke the fire horse sold yesterday. The new animal is bay, tall and quick to run under the harness, showing vigor in its early days.
