Three Middletown Residents Quarantined Over Smallpox Risk

The Frederick County Board of Health ordered Mrs. Albert Greenwalt and Mr. C. E. Edmonson to ten days home quarantine after visiting Strasburg and Shenandoah County. James I. Larrick, Middletown’s Democratic Executive Committee chair, had already been detained for entering the infected district. Strife reportedly arose when two Strasburg youths informed on the visitors.

Two-Horse Team Nearly Run Down at Station

A Baltimore and Ohio passenger train arriving forty minutes late at 1144 narrowly avoided striking a two-horse wagon on the track. The wagon carried two men who leapt clear as the locomotive whipped past, the crowd on the platform recoiling in relief.

Charley Moran Joins Washington American League Club

The Chicago Tribune notes a photo of Charley Moran a Winchester figure now signed by Manager Tom Loftus for the Washington American League club Moran a Washington native born twenty three years ago began baseball young serving as watcher for Gonzaga College in 1894 95 pitched at Peekskill Military Academy 1895 96 and played shortstop for Georgetown University from 1899 onward He was a star for Winchester during the Valley League era.

Insane Man Threatens Wife Again in Staunton

Clinton Cleveland of east Girard street, recent inmate at Staunton Hospital for the Insane, again menaced his wife prompting a friend to seek arrest for commitment. She sought refuge with a neighbor after threats to kill. The man’s mind is wrecked and he may be returned to the asylum. An auction was held tonight at 7:80 p.m. at Ghelf's drug store.

Frightful railroad accident leaves man dead between towns

Chas Hardsock a 30 year old car inspector for Swift d Co was struck on the Baltimore and Ohio main line between Brunswick and Knoxville Md. His head and right arm were severed and he died instantly. A wife and four children remain in destitute circumstances. After the impact the trains halted and his remains were identified by letters in his pockets. A separate theatre report notes Mr Smith O Brien in The Game Keeper at the Auditorium, with praise for his singing and acting.

Wreck on Southern Railroad near Riverton Hurts None Claimed

Rail officials deny injuries but two physicians rushed from Strasburg to the scene after a derailment on the Southern Railroad near Riverton in Warren county Virginia. The 6:30 PM wreck halted traffic until 4:30 AM, stranding Winchester passengers at Strasburg Junction overnight while the south bound train cleared the wreck.

Mr. Clarence C. Adams of Nain in the county recently butchered three twelve month old hogs that yielded a total of 911 pounds. The carcasses weighed 826, 800, and 286 pounds respectively.

Frederick County Teachers Back Compulsory Education Law

The first fall meeting of the Frederick County Teachers Association debated a compulsory education bill for Virginia children aged 7 to 14. A roll call vote favored the measure 28 to 8, then unanimously, with a committee appointed to lobby state legislators. The next meeting on January 24 will discuss consolidating rural schools.
