The hospital, built years ago, faced rising demands and a busy agenda. The executive committee, confident earlier, now deems extra space essential to sustain current operations and future work.
The Winchester Memorial Hospital plans a two story addition on Clifford and Stewart streets to nearly double capacity. Fundraising continues after $3,150 already raised by Mr. Peter Rouss and local physicians with about $10,000 more needed from the public.
The late Dr. William Love’s last will, dated January 24, 1912 and probated in the Corporation Court, leaves his widow a life estate in Shenandoah Valley National Bank stock and the West Water Street home, with the remainder of the estate going to his three daughters. Executor M. M. Lynch Lyne has qualified with a $60,000 bond.
Regulations for the new parcel post go into effect nationally on January 1. Postmaster General Hitchcock announced that the system will cover all post offices, rural routes, and rail mail transportation, with delivery to homes where carriers exist and post offices otherwise. Rates start at five cents per pound in the first zone and rise to twelve cents per pound across eight zones, with optional $50 insurance for ten cents per parcel.

Fruit growers of Windheater and Frederick counties are urged to exhibit at the seventeenth annual Virginia Horticultural Society convention in Lynchburg from January 9 to 10. Frederick County leads membership with over 65 active members and is prominent in apple production. The meeting will feature national speakers on fruit growing and aims to promote Virginia apples and lands, boosting county revenues through higher land values. H. F. Byrd leads local efforts to attract exhibitors to the Lynchburg show.
An oyster supper will be held in Gainesboro on Friday and Saturday nights December 20 and 21 at the new school building to benefit the school. All are cordially invited to attend.
