The jury found Joan W. Brown guilty of assaulting Charles F. Keiter and sentenced him to six months in jail. Prosecutor R. E. Byrd led closing arguments as Brown, in custody, addressed the court and expressed concern for his wife and children. Brown’s conviction stems from an October 11, 1898 incident over impounded sheep that left Keiter injured. Brown had been released on bail prior to trial.
Reverend E Olin Eldfige preached on Faith at Market Street Methodist Church last night. One penitent came forward at the altar seeking peace in Jesus. Reverend E B Jackson of the Baptist Church spoke briefly and helpfully. Epworth League plans an entertainment at 8 p.m. tonight.
The Board of County Supervisors set specifications for three improvements at the Grim lot corner of May. A shed will be built on the east and south sides with hitching posts from near the west entrance to the east. The north side stable will be torn down next spring with parts reused. Work starts Monday and finishes in about ten days.
Mrs. William Taylor of north Main street suffered severe burns to both hands while trying to extinguish a hall lamp about to explode. She grabbed the lamp from its bracket and threw it into the street as it detonated, noting flames as she acted. The incident occurred late yesterday noon.
