The Lynchburg paper memorializes a controversial figure, recounting her life from childhood to alleged mastery of mesmeric and hypnotic arts. It portrays her as a dominant personality who abandoned her baby, contends with family and social judgment, and links her to Mrs. Eddy and Brigham Young.
John H. Sumption, a Frederick County native, died yesterday at his daughter’s home in Harrisonburg at age 65 from a lasting illness. Survived by wife Lynn and children Maude, Winifred, and others, he will be laid to rest in New Albany, Ohio, after services at C. E. Trenary’s home. Brothers and sisters also survive in West Virginia locations. Burial follows in New Albany.
A tenant house on County Treasurer S. M. Chiles farm near Kernstown owned by Chiles and occupied by W. J. Harbaugh burned early this morning. The family lost nearly all belongings and had no insurance, while Chiles carried insurance on the building.

Engineer P M Light found dismembered body parts along the B and O line near Martinsburg and Kearneysville after a freight train incident. The unidentified man, about 65 with a white moustache, was likely killed by the 2 PM freight. Fragments were collected and sent to Martinsburg for identification.

Hugh F Booth a well known farmer died this week at Reliance aged 43 years. A Shenandoah native he lived as a farmer all his life. He leaves a widow father Mr Booth and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services at Reliance were conducted by Rev J D Hamaker pastor of the Christian Church and other ministers.

Major General Wallace F. Randolph retired and once chief of artillery shot himself at his Washington home after months of kidney trouble. A descendant of Philadelphia families, he served in the Civil War and Spanish American War, commanding field artillery with Shafter in Cuba and later directing Fort Riley duties. He married Miss Powell of Philadelphia and had ties to prominent local families.
Lynchburg residents approved reopening saloons by 85 votes in a total of 2,663, after years under prohibition. The Anti-Saloon League plans to contest the result citing missing written registration applications, with a ten day window to file. The vote follows a 1909 dry result and included a single arrest during the day.

Widely known Chester merchant Frederick Bantz died at his residence No 123 North aged about years after a long illness. He retired from business years ago due to failing health and had long been a leading figure in the town. He served as a council member and president, sat on the Public School Board, Shenandoahvale Bank director, and was active in Elks and other local groups.
