Young Mail Thief Sent To Reform School
Ernest Brown a colored youth pleaded guilty in the United States Court Western District of Virginia Harrisonburg to stealing letters from rural mail boxes on Carrier George Crisman's route east of Winchester. He was sent to Hanover Reform School for 17 months with court appointing James B Stephenson as his counsel. Junior Douglas another colored boy from Harrisonburg confessed to stealing from Jeweler Devier and received one year at the same school. The court, presided by Judge Henry Clay McDowell, also heard sentences for moonshining and irregular distilling with fines and jail terms. Petit jurors included residents from Frederick and Clarke counties as term adjourns soon.
