Lightning Strike Flies By Higginbotham in Jefferson Home
Mr. S. H. Higginbotham of Wheatland Jefferson county faced an electrical storm when a lightning bolt struck an old system phone in his room. The bolt bored a hole through the back, zigzagged along the wall following a wallpaper thread, and tore plaster before being deflected by spouting. Higginbotham was slightly stunned but unharmed.

Portsmouth Va Aug 29 After days of stern diplomatic battle the peace envoys representing the Japanese and Russian governments in conference at Portsmouth reached an agreement this morning and decided that hostilities between these two nations in the far East are to stop. The Japanese practically yielded everything accepting the Russian ultimatum of no indemnity and a division of Sakhalin without redemption money The Japanese also yielded intermed warships and a limitation of naval power.
