Mr. W. Ray Smith a night train despatcher for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, confined at his North Main street home for several weeks by a serious illness, was reported improved this morning. His condition is now more favorable than at any time since he was taken ill.
Mr Edwin Vanmeter and Mrs Lillian Flaherty were married yesterday at St Marys Catholic Church parochial residence Cumberland by Rev John R Roth. Attendants were Reese Brant and Airy Twiss. The couple will celebrate at Oldfields West Virginia during a family reunion. the Vanmeters are pioneer ancestors of South Branch Valley with extensive connections in Winchester and Frederick county.
Ray Clark son of Mr and Mrs Charles Clark died at home in the county Monday evening after a protracted illness. Funeral held today at the Mountain Church. Admyr Wesley Morrison infant son of Mr and Mrs John Morrison Stephenson died Monday, funeral yesterday in Milburn graveyard. Services conducted by Rev C L Potter.
Mrs. Cyrus Leidig of this city and her granddaughter Miss Ethel Thomas returned home Monday after an enjoyable visit to Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Bentzel in Martinsburg.
Mr. Charles Showalter formerly of this city now in New York visits brother Claude Showalter and departs this afternoon for Bridgewater Virginia to attend a family reunion.
Mr. Jonah Tavenner returned this morning from a visit to his son Judge F S Tavenner at Woodstock. the family reunion follows a brief separation and highlights regional ties.
Parties wishing to take toll by the year on the Valley Turnpike at gates 1 2 and 3 must call at Hansbrough and Carter office. Either partner will issue receipts for one year starting September 1. The August month extends this privilege.
The Cumberland Valley Railroad will run connections for regular trains to and from Williams Grove for the Grangers Picnic August 24 to 29. The Thursday special departs Winchester at 6:15 p.m. and returns from the Grove at 5:15 p.m. Excursion tickets valid to return until Saturday August 29 are on sale Monday through Friday at reduced rates.
