Three Breaks in Levees on the Mississippi River
Memphis Tennessee April 8 three breaks occurred south of Memphis on Sunday first at 24 mile post sixteen miles south of Helena Arkansas later in the afternoon the levee at Laconia sixty miles below Helena went out and last night the levee gave way at Henrico near Laconié flooding hundreds of square miles of rich farming land. Inhabitants had warning and no lives are likely lost though damage cannot yet be estimated railroads entering Memphis from the west through Arkansas were out of commission. Continued on page 6.
