Special to the News from Alpena Michigan reports a fierce forest fire sweeping the area. A relief train was burned near Metz with fourteen refugees, mostly women and children, dying as they could not escape. The fire's rapid advance endangered Presque Isle County communities.
A massive blaze in Chicago area docks and railroad offices caused over a million dollars in damage. The International Salt Company facilities and Joliet railroad offices were destroyed along with more than fifty freight cars. Firefighters fought the flames from afternoon into night.
President Castro vows to shoot any revolutionary traitors if captured as rumors of a Dutch backed uprising swirl in Caracas. He arrived ill but recovered, while Venezuela prepares a detailed reply to Hollands second note on the transit decree.
The Blue Grass League met in Lexington on October 16 with W R Thomas and Beverly R Jouett representing Wrechester and members from Lexington Wiretester Shelbyville Lawrence bur Richmond. A committee to draft constitutions and by laws was named, Geo R Hammond and Beverly R Jouett to serve. The group planned adjournment to Tuesday at 10 am to settle affairs from the past year and adopt constitutions and schedules for next season.
New York reports Harry Thaw could travel to Pittsburg next Sunday morning to testify in bankruptcy proceedings. Dr. Amos T. Mr Speed Stevenson, a young farmer near L. & E. vanetion, was severely kicked Thursday by a mule at Ben Franklin's Iron Works Pike farm. Delivering a sold colt, he was struck in the face below the left eye, requiring stitches but not considered serious by physicians. He was taken to the Franklin home for medical aid.
