Dismisses the case against saloonmen in liquor trial
The city police court heard seven saloon owners charged with selling beer to a minor from Kentucky Wesleyan College. The case against Porter was dismissed for lack of proof that the principal or agents sold to the minor. witnesses contradicted identification and bottles could not be produced. Carmack Shot Dead in Nashville in Front of Polk Flats
Former Senator Edward Ward Carmack editor of the Tennesseean was shot and killed in front of Polk flats while walking north on Seventh Avenue. Robin Cooper, 27, a lawyer and son of Colonel Dun can B. Cooper, fired two shots as Carmack fired one. Colonel Cooper drew a pistol but did not fire. Robin was wounded in the right shoulder and hospitalized. Colonel Cooper is held at police headquarters. The incident stems from editorials Carmack published criticizing the Democratic machine and a gubernatorial primary dispute.
