At the Auditorium on Friday evening, Emma Thompson won the prize for the most graceful lady skater while Robert Lee Bean took the prize for the best gentleman skater. A large crowd attended the contest.
Auctioneer H R Watts reports the sale of J C Gillaspie at the McClure pike Holliday farm Friday morning listing mules, jennets, mares, a gelding, a filly, a cow, a Duroc sow, turkey stock, poultry, straw and farm implements with prices ranging from 20 to 340 dollars.
Mr J K Watson a noted grocer sells his Broadway and Maple street business property for 12500 dollars cash to Dr J F Walters and buys Walters 50 acres at Pine Grove for 15000 dollars. Immediate possession is given in each deal. Watson plans to move to his new home once he disposes of his grocery.
Miss Julia French Mamie Hughes and Sallie Munday popular Lexington teachers visited Winchester Friday with four Mt. Sterling colleagues to inspect the public school system and observe methods and facilities.
The Lexington Herald notes visiting educators confined their inspection to Maxwell Street School to observe local methods. Three visitors came from Winchester and four from Mt. Sterling, drawn by former Maxwell principal E F Darnaby, now Winchester public schools superintendent. They praised the grade work and orderly pupils, enjoyed a noon luncheon, and identified Winchester teachers Julia French Mamie Hughes Sallie Munday along with Mt Sterling guests Mary Welsch Mattie Hoffman Lucy Owings and Bessie Robinson.
The Kentucky Senate concurred with House amendments to the Compulsory Primary bill and added Senator Hogg’s amendment restricting 1912 primaries for parties that already called a convention for November. The Seventh District Congressional primary on March 16 will follow the Democratic Committee call. The Hamilton substitute to curb election abuses passed as amended, and publication of candidate expenses is required before and after elections. The measure moves to the Senate.
Mr. Chariton Lowe, a Confederate veteran and noted local figure, remains critically ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Hagan, as family and friends await his recovery.
Mrs. Helen Hutsel from Lexington came to town due to the critical illness of her brother Charlton Lowe. Mr and Mrs Marian Hall of Paris were summoned by the sickness of Mrs Hall's uncle Charlton Lowe. Mr Sid Calk of Mt Sterling delivered tobacco to the city. Mr and Mrs James Powell leased the boarding house previously run by Mrs J W Womack.
The Selig version of Cinderella expands the old nursery tale into a three reel drama by Henry K Webster. Cinderella endures abuse from her step mother and sisters before a magic transformation and the hidden romance with a Prince who travels as a ragged milk vender. They wed after the slipper fits and the couple reunite in happiness.
Squire John J. Redman and L N engineer L P Bell in Paris to secure right of way for a proposed North Middletown to Helges Station line. Prospects improve as landowners donate or accept modest payments. Paris Bourbon county gains expected freight through Paris, with C H D rail traffic cited as five hundred cars daily to Cincinnati.
Sunday school begins at 2 o'clock conducted by superintendent Mr. Graham Johns. Evening prayer and sermon follow at 3 o'clock by Archdeacon Wentworth.

Louisv ille, Ky Feb 24 Dr Ariel Buchanan a clairvoyant was indicted for grand larceny for swindling Louisville women out of sums from a few dollars up to 2000 He allegedly hypnotized victims and claimed money would grow in a chamois bag around their necks Mrs Viola Frey and Mrs Daisy Carrol were among those duped with losses cited as high as 2300 before he vanished
Aaron B. Donaldson a mining promoter and former Methodist minister was sentenced in Judge Shirley's Court at Taylorsville Illinois to an indeterminate term of from one to fourteen years in Chester Penitentiary for alleged operation of a confidence game by which it is charged he got $80 000 from Joseph Downs.
Lehigh Oklahoma February 24. Eight miners are known dead and as many as twenty entombed after a fire at mine No. 5 of the Western Mine and Coal Company Gould property. About 200 men were at work 300 feet below ground when the blaze began. Rescue parties reached the core late Thursday and began probing workings near the mouth of the mine. The disaster is the worst in Oklahoma mining history with extensive damage and high costs anticipated.
Commissioner of Agriculture Newman completes the institute program for February 27 to 29. Indications point to a highly successful gathering. The state's Woman's Clubs cooperate with the commissioner to involve farmers' wives. February 28 is set as Ladies' Day with Mrs Desha Breckinridge of Lexington and Miss Anna Barrows of Columbia University among speakers. Federation of Woman's Clubs members from Louisville and Lexington expected to attend.
Mr. T C Hardesty spends Friday to Monday at home each week. Mrs L Gainey of Cincinnati is visiting Mrs T C Hardesty.
Winifred Ankers, a kitchen worker at Brooklyn Nursery and Infants Hospital, confessed to poisoning eight babies by adding oxalic acid to milk bottles. Police say the 2-hour interrogation yielded the admission and deem her possibly demented, though they consider her account trustworthy.
Mrs. R. C. Skillman of North Middletown and Miss Adeline Brown of Ruddie's Mill were summoned here by the illness of their uncle, Mr. Charlton Lowe.
Cattle active strong and higher across categories with shippers paying up to 7 per cwt for best extra cattle. Hogs steady with selected heavies at 6.50 to 6.60, packers and butchers 6.55 to 6.60, pigs 4.25 to 5.75. Lambs and sheep steady to active, lambs 6.25 to 7.00, yearlings 4.25 to 5.25. Cows and calves show varied gains, bulls strong and scarce.
