Auctioneer Watts reports the February 7 sale for John E. Ramsey, administrator of the late Dr. H. C. Hart, drawing a large crowd. Bids were spirited with notable prices: three aged work mules at 105, 115 and 118 dollars, an aged buggy horse at 40 dollars, corn in crib at 3.88 per barrel, fodder 30 to 39 cents per shock, and baled hay 1.20 to 1.30 per unit.
A good play An Everyday Girl is scheduled for the Winchester Opera House on Saturday February 10. The show follows Lena Rivers in popularity as it tours major cities and is praised for strong cast and production. Reports from other localities call it the most talked of road production.
The Fourteenth Annual Tabernacle Bible Conference meets March 1–10 at Baptist Tabernacle Atlanta with over two thousand preachers expected. Notables include Dr Chas Ivwood, Dr Camden M. Cobern, Dr J H Jewett, Dr Howard A Johnson, Dr W W Butard, and Dr Len Broughton. Music by A C Boatman and others, featuring a 20,000 dollar pipe organ.

Shirley Thomas was arrested by the police chief Tuesday night on a grand larceny charge. He allegedly stole a twenty dollar bill from John Love. Both residents of Howards Lower Creek, Thomas confessed and was held to await the grand jury by Judge Pendleton in $300 bond, which he could not meet.
Mr J B Martin sold to Mr J D Gravitt a farm near Hunt of 121 acres for 6000 dollars cash. Possession given at once. This marks the third farm sold by Mr Martin in the neighborhood within sixty days.
Miss Annie Montague Turner, whose mother is Miss Ruth Gordon of Winchester, graduated from a New York City high school last week with first honors and was named valedictorian of a class of over 6,000 pupils. The achievement brings pride to her Winchester relatives and friends.
More than seventy people were served at the soup house opened Wednesday for the worthy poor. By Thursday noon one hundred and ten had received a bowl and bread after applying to the Associated Charities and obtaining a ticket signed by the Secretary. The venture aims to feed the needy while excluding frauds, with meat, vegetables and money contributions welcomed.
Frank Amati, sued by creditor Sil Dinelli who attached six months of rent at 67.50 monthly as past due. Amati filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition through attorney J. M. Stevenson listing liabilities of 2450, with 800 tied to a mortgage held by Enerita Amati, and assets of 2350.
A contract awarded Wednesday to Winchester Paint and Wall Paper Co for decorating the Pastime Theatre interior. Cost estimated between four hundred and five hundred dollars. Features include incline floor seating, fire proof booth, cut glass chandeliers and globes, an electric sign from Federal Sign Co of Louisville, curtain scenery by A Lynn Verry, and ushers in uniform. The theatre to open to the public about March 18.
The Foreign Missionary Rally at First Christian Church drew a large crowd on Wednesday. Rev. E. M. Allen led devotions and Rev. Mr. Shaw, a China missionary, spoke on the conditions leading to upheavals there. Rev. Mr. Hedges, from Congo Africa, shared Africa's redemption and the world’s largest Sunday School at Bolenge. Afternoon sessions continued with Shaw recounting Chinese missionary work and Hedges detailing native Christian sacrifices.
Evangelists led a day promoting missionary work with a nine to one support pledge. Mr Aller spoke on methods in Bible school missions, followed by a banquet for church men. Mr Allen delivered a strong closing address, then stereopticon views and moving pictures illustrated field scenes. Attendance was praised, and locals missed a great opportunity.
About 80,000 pounds of tobacco were sold Thursday morning at an average of 9.87 dollars per cwt. Several crops brought 14.80 to 16.50 dollars, one averaging 13.86. Green and frozen lots sold high, with old baskets at 25 to 27 cents and many new baskets at 20 to 26 cents. Farmers pleased with prices as bidding stayed active. Next sales set for Monday.
R. T. Williams of Ford was arrested in Powell County on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. AS Dunham, Ford storekeeper, says he entrusted Williams with a check to be cashed in the city and Williams diverted the funds for his own use.
Rev Lewis Fuller a Bidwell Circuit Methodist Episcopal minister vanished from Bidwell last Friday. He was reportedly seen in Gallipolis and boarded a Kanawha and Michigan train to Charleston on Wednesday. Searches continue in Charleston. no further word from Lexington. Mrs Fuller in Bidwell reports no new developments.
The recently elected directors’ list for the Associated Charities includes Mrs. Henry Phillips who was unintentionally omitted from the previous notice. The correction adds her name to the roster and confirms her appointment.
An appeal describes dire destitution in Hungry Hollow with four motherless children and a jobless father. The Associated Charities solicits donations and notes a benefit event February 9 with half the proceeds donated. Volunteers urge residents to support the cause and attend the charity event to aid neighbors in need.

The body of Abe Webb who died in Columbia Missouri of tuberculosis arrived by noon train on Thursday, accompanied by his two sons Jeff of Columbia and Abb who resides in the county. The remains were interred at Winchester cemetery at 3 pm. Webb formerly lived in the county and had many friends and relatives there.
London Kentucky February 7 By Thursday at time for adjournment all the evidence in the peonage trial before the United States District Court will probably be before the jury. Government closes its evidence in chief with many witnesses yet to be introduced. Judge Cochran overruled some motions for four defendants but discharged Pitney Phillips Charles Gardner and Ed Smith. Other defendants testified denying whipping for debts and offering alternate reasons for punishment. The judge has pushed the trial rapidly with no relays or quibbling.
