At the regular Friday meeting of the King's Daughters the group decided to expand membership and broaden work. It proposes forming a circle of King's Daughters in every church in the city and concentrating efforts toward building a nucleus fund for a Winchester hospital.
Mrs. H H Phillips, long a local candy maker, expands to box candy sales using Lowney mix. The Phillips drug store now has the agency to sell the new half pound, pound, and three pound boxes, with demand rising in nearly every city store.
The Kentucky In Geoptores Athletic Association will hold its annual meeting at the Phoenix Hotel in Lexington on Friday with six universities in attendance. State University will be represented by Prof. A M Wilson while Prof. A M Miller attends in Birmingham. Central Transylvania Berea Kentucky Wesleyan and Georgetown will also send delegates. It is expected that charges against Central University players will not be pressed and State University plans to propose several important measures.
Washington reports Secretary Dickinson, in his annual review, endorses the flying machine and asks Congress to fund a capable number of aircraft for instruction and field work. He notes the US first recognized aeronautics and flew at Fort Myer in 1908 but has since only a small dirigible, Wright aircraft, and three captive balloons. The Signal Corps personnel remains limited with one officer licensed for free balloons and nine enlisted men, while Chesapeake Bay's entrance lacks any gun defense.

Several weeks after Vic Bloom field shipped 50 boxes of Florida oranges to local fruit dealers for Christmas there is no trace of the cargo. Tracers have searched for days and it is probable the shipment was lost and will not reach in time for the holidays.
Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy refused a renowned carriage horse pair, calling them devils sent to kill her. The horses Tattersall and Eckersall, bought in Lexington for 10000 dollars, were selected by J. M. Osborne of Paris, Kentucky. Eddy sent a letter to T. L. L. Temple of Texarkana, Arkansas, explaining her reaction and noting the horses were returned to the donor after a brief stay. Temple now uses them for carriage work and mocks the idea of craving an automobile.
Eight year old Guissepi Longo freed from an East Side tenement after police traced him with help from another child. Two men, a woman, and five Italians were arrested. the boy’s father, a Brooklyn grocer, had received ransom demands of 10 000 then 15 000 dollars since November 19.
A charred body with large iron shackles on the legs was discovered in a campfire near Archmont Norfolk on Thursday. Authorities believe the fugitive, exhausted by a long escape, started the fire to sleep and was overcome by flames due to his shackled limbs.

Circuit Clerk Webb informed Governor Willson that Judge Stout cannot leave his room and Judge Halbert will continue the term. Willson plans to contact Halbert by long distance to confirm. Special elisors Stacy and Callahan, with subpoenas, are stationed in Breathitt, Magoffin, and Boyd counties to secure witnesses for the Commonwealth for Monday’s trials.
President Taft convened a late cabinet meeting to discuss the Supreme Court appointment situation. He has consulted with more than fifty people and expects a decision by early next week. Senators Cummins, Borah, Lodge, Flint, and Nelson visited, with Governor Harmon stopping briefly for cordial talks. Harmon spoke of the White House decor while recounting election tales, and assurances were given by Taft on cautious selection.

Mrs. Al Anderson died at her Mt. Sterling home Thursday from stomach cancer. She was mother in law to Mrs. Joe Anderson, formerly Miss Nancy Nelson of this city. Miss Willie Mae Nelson traveled to Mt. Sterling on Saturday to attend the funeral.
The Kentucky Democrats formally endorsed Champ Clark of Missouri for Speaker of the next Congress. They report pledges from 175 Democrats and equivocal ones from 25 others, with nearly all remaining Democrats expected to rally to Clark.
Former U S Senator James Smith Jr. responded to Governor-elect Woodrow Wilson’s letter urging James E. Martine for the Senate. Smith calls Wilson’s statement a gratuitous attack on an unwarranted attempt to coerce the legislature and asserts he has not decided yet.
James B. Nugent, chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, said Governor-elect Wilson’s statement amazed him. He stressed party duty covers many issues including selecting a U.S. senator, warning that internal dissension would weaken the party.

Nan Martin of Washington D C who wed Sumner Prescott of Menominee Mich on October 24 in St Paul is Nan Patterson the Florodora murder trial figure. Prescott’s friends claim the bride’ s identity. they moved to Seattle after the marriage while Prescott had earlier ousted a receiver from his Prescott Company affairs.
Austin Greaves received life imprisonment in the Circuit Court after defending himself in the killing of neighbor Alfred Hunter. Greaves called his children Goldie 12 and John 9 to testify about neighborhood persecution. He urged the jury for acquittal or death, while asking for a new trial post verdict.
Teachers at county schools visited Superintendent J. E. Lanter to collect two months of pay. The State Superintendent’s check, delayed previously, arrived Saturday morning, totaling 4678.84 dollars.

Frank Hensley owner of a five and ten cent store in the Kerr building on Main Street filed a bankruptcy petition. The store was closed Saturday morning. Assets are listed at 2300 dollars with liabilities of 3900 dollars. Pendleton, Bush & Bush represent him. creditors’ meeting to be held at their offices in about ten days.
Young of Massillon Hospital For the Insane died from scalding injuries after a shower bath. Stark county coroner Dr Harry A March opened an inquiry in Young s death, noting the hot water may have been turned on by a patient during attendants changes at midnight Sunday. He said he would seek a governor s order for a further investigation.
