Representative Langley spoke against making census enumerators subject to competitive Civil Service exams. A former Census Bureau Appointment Clerk, he argued twelfth century enumerators were well qualified without exams. The House supported the bill after a five hour debate with no material changes.
A bridge reconstruction on Lost Creek ten miles above Jackson killed Kelly Hoskins, formerly a Lexington & Eastern brakeman, and injured several workers. The accident happened while raising a newly placed span. names of the injured were not available. The site had replaced an older Jackson bridge, with plans to rebuild the old crossing.
During a Wednesday business session at First Baptist church the pastor Dr Porter had his annual salary raised by $500 to $2,500. A revival offering of $500 was noted for meeting expenses, including a $25 Thanksgiving contribution for the pou.
