More than 2000 exhibits of farm crops eggs poultry livestock and home economics products lined the Fredericks County Fair at Farmers Livestock Exchange area. Supt Eugene Larrick opened the event with record attendance forecast and judges assigned to crop garden apiculture and homemaking divisions. 4-H FHA and FFA clubs reported large entries including baked goods clothing crafts canned goods and garden produce with numerous numbers across divisions. Future Homemakers of America and 4-H and FFA supervisors cited strong participation and pride in the county’s agricultural showcase.

Burglar Uses Complex Trap in Room
E. Piper, a railroad switchman in Los Angeles, built a burglar booby trap using photographic flash bulbs wired to audio and an electric cockey to flash when intruders neared his dresser. He smeared drawer handles with indelible pencil lead and syrup and claimed a mysterious intruder used a towel to wipe ink from his fingers.

County to Guard Pupils Against Diphtheria
The first of a series of county diphtheria immunization clinics will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Stonewall school. The program will serve children six months to 10 years, with older un immunized children in some cases. Two shots of toxoid will be given, a second clinic weeks later, for a 25 cent fee. Clinics may be held at six or seven centers including Stephens City Gaines and Gore.

Frederick county draft board reviewed files of 80 county registrants last night and six county plus three city men were called for Alexandria examinations next month. Questionnaires were mailed to men aged 20 to 26 and outputs expect 1-A classifications. initial physicals begin October 18 for colored men and October 25 for white. Clarke Warren and Shenandoah counties were asked to contribute exam participants.

Motor Crashes Send 3 Persons To Hospital
Three people were hospitalized after two truck collisions near Winchester. Edgar K. Warner of Stephenson and John Kerns of Route 2 were injured in a head on crash on Route 50 west of Winchester at 7 20 this morning. A second collision four miles south of Winchester on Route 522 involved Mrs. Mattie Rickard of White Post and a Ford truck owned by Mamie Spaid of Route 2. Warner suffered shock and arm injuries, with possible hip and pelvis pain. Ambulances from Friendship and Omps ferried the injured to the hospital. X rays were being taken and the investigation by State Trooper E B Mitchell continued.

Mrs. Roosevelt 87 widow of Theodore Roosevelt and widow of the 26th president died at Sagamore Hill Oyster Bay N Y after years of weak health. She witnessed the deaths of three of her four sons in war Quentin died in World War I Theodore Jr and Kermit in World War II Archibald survived and served in both wars.
