The People to People Health Foundation and Project Hope announce finalization of the purchase of Carter Hall, its surrounding outbuildings, and 77 acres by their boards from the Farland family.
Frederick County faces more than $100000 in back taxes owed by Marjee Corp and other Shawneeland lot owners. A special supervisors meeting will decide whether to sell overdue parcels, with UD stating Marjee’s lot sales suspended since 1976. The panel meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. and invoices may be advertised.

Richard Moxley and Jimmy Pusey, both inmates with prior rape and assault convictions, were arrested on Shirley Gate Road after abducting Linda Cox from a Sussex County farm. Cox, a mother of three, was found eight hours later in a northern Virginia house and had been raped and bound. Police tied the men to the abduction with warrants for burglary, abduction, armed robbery, and related felonies.
Beirut reports a tentative cease-fire taking hold as Israel withdraws armor from northern border positions. Arafat says talks continue to finalize a cease-fire while a radical group rejects the accord. Israeli spokesmen say the truce is in effect.
