Marsh, the Democratic nominee, won the July primary to fill the seat of retiring Rep. Burr P. Harrison. Ice Mountain auction sells for 23200 in Hampshire County
Ice Mountain near Winchester was sold at auction to Otis Baker for 23200 to settle the estate of George Lamar Pugh. The 34 acre formation with 140 acres including surrounding land was auctioned by J B Saville after a 45 minute sale at the Hampshire County Court House. Edna Deaver administratrix filed the case in which 40 cousins were named defendants. Ruth Mudd a Flying Tiger Line stewardess reportedly dismissed and may not be aboard the plane that ditched in the Atlantic recently.

Indictments Return in 1961 Murders and Thefts
A Winchester grand jury returned 14 indictments dating back to March 1961. James Dawson was charged with murder of Hubert Smith at the Winchester Labor Camp after an argument led to a fatal head strike with a club. Heavy barn fire on Poor House Road destroys county farm barn
Fire destroyed a high bank barn on the old county farm property on Poor House Road last night. Estimated contents loss at 6 000 dollars with unofficial totals up to 40 000 dollars. The estate of the late Boyd Unger owned the barn and property purchased in 1946 or 1947. About 8 000 bales of hay and 100 barrels of corn were lost. Fire units from Round Hill and Gainesboro responded. The fire also damaged a machine shed and cattle shed. The cause is unknown and a check on insurances is underway.

Navy patrol plane wreckage sighted near Alaska island
A Navy patrol P5M plane carrying 10 crewmen was sighted burning wreckage on a southern Alaska island. The Navy reported three bodies near the wreckage and said no survivors were found. The aircraft from Patrol Squadron 42 based in San Diego disappeared after last radio contact near the island on Saturday.
