Private dispatches from New York report the British pound weakening to 3.50 on the New York Stock Exchange before rallying to 4.31 at close. The currency typically quotes around 4.84 on the exchange, and observers expect further recovery as Britain’s financial situation adjusts and improves.
World financial centers move to protect the system as Britain suspends the gold redemption act. A harvest home service for all churches of Frederick Circuit Methodist Episcopal Church South will be held at 11 o clock Wednesday in the main exhibition hall of the Winchester Fair grounds. Rev. P. The case of Mrs. Margaret Fletcher and Orvis Fletcher of Winchester against William A. Larrick of Hampshire County WV for damages due to a false search is scheduled for September 28 and 29 in the United States Court at Martinsburg West Virginia.
Five people were killed and 16 badly burned when two oil tank trains collided near Ploesti Romania on September 21. Local authorities reported the fatalities and injuries as responders battled flames at the scene.
