The Virginia Highway Commission joined the American Association of Highway Officials in opposing a federal highway spending freeze. It urged Congress to exempt highway funds from a 6 billion dollar clampdown, delaying 54 Virginia road projects with 42 million dollars in federal aid for at least three months. Also approved 200 thousand for a Pulaski County road into the reservoir area, 150 thousand for access to Richmond Foods’ planned center in Hanover County, and a 5.6 million Warrenton bypass construction.
