Resident of Winchester Area Dies After Accident

The obituary notes Mr. Ponn, about 75, who moved from Page County Virginia to the Frederick area around 60 years ago, died following a fall near a hospital. He leaves two daughters and two sons, including Fred Ponn and Hu bert Ponn, with a third son Hubert Ponn having died recently.

Local Resident Struck by Car Near Home

A well known resident, Mr Penn, was struck by a car while walking along the pike near his home. He suffered a fractured right leg and brain concussion, remained unconscious at Memorial Hospital. The driver, H H Algier of Hagerstown Md, stopped and gave his details.

Davis Opens Indiana Campaign With Gary Speech

Democratic presidential candidate John W. Davis began a whirlwind tour after a Gary rally where he framed his bid around human equality personal liberty and popular sovereignty He planned two talks in South Bend and an evening address in Fort Wayne before moving to New York then Massachusetts Rhode Island New York Delaware and Maryland in the weeks ahead with more stops in Ohio southern Illinois Missouri and possibly Oklahoma Kansas and Michigan in early October.

More Enrollment In High Schools In Local Division

The four high schools Berryville Boyce Stephens City and Middletown opened for the fall session with record enrollment. Compulsory education enforcement contributed to the rise as Berryville reports 375 total students with 104 in high school and Boyce 172 with 55 in high school. Stephens City lists 240 students including 58 high schoolers while Middletown has 142 students with 81 in high school. Several schools share new principals and all began smoothly.

Big Brother Work Planned By Holy Name Society

The Holy Name Society convention lay delegates discussed welfare work and lay activity. Cardinal Daugherty led a high mass at the Catholic University stadium as visitors arrive for the monster parade in Washington. Women fight erupts in Bristol street disturbance

Two smartly dressed women attracted hundreds in downtown Bristol as they fought in the street. They toppled to the pavement and rolled, biting and scratching while bystanders separated them. Both women fled before identities could be learned as clothing and faces showed injuries.
